One Prayer

This Sunday we begin One Prayer.  We are joining with over 600 other churches from all over the world and it is going to be extremely exciting!  The theme this year is “God is_________”.  This Sunday I will be filling in the blank with SURPRISE!  God is full of surprises.  You gotta come and be surprised by all that God has for us.

Along with One Prayer we want to serve.  Serving the commuity is part of the DNA of SouthPoint, and it goes well with us because we have so many amazing people and servants that it would be a waste to not do anything.  Watch this video from Dino Rizzo Healing Place Church and then comment HERE on some ways you would like to see us serve our community in the next few weeks.

  1. How about offering tutoring to children who may need the extra help during the summer?

Also, if we have any more of those ice pops that we gave out at church, we could go to the local park and give them away since it is so hot. I’ll bet people would really appreciate that and it would cool them off and make them smile!

We could give some iced water out (now that it is hot) at the park too…. do we have any water still at the church office.

    Any takers???

  2. -Take snacks/cookies/drinks to the waiting rooms of different hospitals. Sometimes family members are afraid to get too far away from the surgical waiting rooms to grab something to eat. It would be nice to grab a cookie or a cold water while they wait for word of their loved one

-Pass out gift cards at a grocery store as a person enters

    • Kendra: Great and I mean great ideas. The only drawback is we are looking for zero dollars this time around. Keep on thinking and posting though. Dale and Wendy

  3. I think we should do something for the abused kids and womens shelters.

    • Hey Lisa: What is a specific thing we can do to help the abused kids and moms? Do you know of any shelters in DeSoto County? We like the idea just not sure where your heart is in this area. What are some specifics you have in mind that cost nothing? If you have done some homework let us know. If yo have not done the homework let us know. Thanks, Dale And Wendy

  4. What if we went to the Southaven WalMart and gathered carts and took them back inside (for several hours – not just once)?

Or we have a BUNCH of J&J baby wash at the office that was donated. We could put ribbons on them and take them to the maternity ward at the hospital and ask if they would give them out to new moms who are checking out.

Let’s get creative. Think of something that doesn’t cost ANY MONEY!!!!

What if we went to a business complex and asked if we could wash the cars of all the employees one day while they were at work? Take some hoses, some cleaner, sponges, brushes and some sweat equity.

    • I love these Patti, no money but still big blessings. OK, everyone, who wants to head up the car wash thing? I think we should do it at the medical building at the corner of Rasco and Airways. This is where we gave away free lunches during Servolution week. Washing their cars after giving them lunch (in those cool bags) is a great building block. Southpointers, someone step up and take this one by the horns.

The maternity thing: Wendy and I can be at the churc office Saturday morning to tie the ribbons and make this happen. Who is going to be there to work this one?

The carts at the busiest Wal Mart on the planet. Although there are employees paid to do the cart retrieval and I would not want to make the manager choose between our help or using a paid employee. What about if we help people to their vehicle and load their items into their car? I do this often at stores for the elderly and they are so appreciative. I get offered a tip and it is so much fun to walk away and say God Bless You. Just a thought.

  5. My wife and I live in a subdivision in Alabaster,Al and there are alot kids that live around us and most of them stay at home alone all day due to their parents working. Most of their parents wont allow them to come out of the house until they get home. So my wife and i started asking if we could take the kids to the pool and just getting them out of the house to have fun. Every Saturday nite we lead a small home group out of our church and most of our neighbors after asking on many occasions wouldnt come due to them not being church members or christians. Now that their children are hanging out with us now the parents are asking aboutand wanting to come to home group.Isn’t God awesome. So just entertaining children during the day has opened a huge door for God to touch people that didnt have any interest in hearing how much Jesus loves them.

    • Ok, that is sooooo cool!

  6. I know there is a lot of storm damage after the storms this past weekend. What about helping with cleanup – especially for the elderly, disabled, and poor who may not be able to clean it up themselves or afford to pay to have it done. Shouldn’t cost any more than a little gas for some chain saws, lawn mowers, and weed eaters.

    • Dude, Mack, this is great and the need is still there. Someone needs to head this up. Make the calls to the city to find where the needs are. Call the Southpointers to make sure it is not just you, me and our wives out there. Are you ready to head this one up? If so, sign Wendy and I up. As long as it is not in the same time frame as another Servolution thing we are doing, we will be there to help. This one is close to my heart. Just need a person with the passion, and it sounds like you have that passion. Is this something you are going to run with? Dale and Wendy

  7. Okay, what all has been done so far? What still needs to be done to get ready??? Man, leave town for a week and miss a ton of great stuff!! I love the baby wash idea and well, every idea is great! I like the idea of a “free car wash” no strings attached! and the buggy/cart pick up at Wal-Mart. What about picking up trash on the roads?

  8. Okay, after watching the video , yes I know, shoulda done that first!
What about free ‘buzz cuts for boys’? I have some clippers and I know that if I wouldn’t look like a dork, I would get my own buzz cut! It’s hot and many people do this for their kiddos during the summer! or Mohawks….just a thought.

Let’s have a yard sale and donate the proceeds to a shelter. I have lots to donate.
Let’s start a collection box at church for the area food pantry. BOGO sales are great. Buy one, keep it and donate the other one.
We could volunteer our time at one of the local Angel Food Host sites in July.
